About Ty

portrait Hello, this is where you'll find a little info on the man behind the tyger: Tyrone Walls, or Ty if you prefer. That's a recent picture of me over there on the right... Now, I've made my home in Humboldt County for some years, and having grown up in the Mojave Desert of Southern CA before that, while the desert does possess a kind of fighting beauty, I can tell you that I'm not going back! My friends and I have spent many a memory basking in rain, shine and sheen in these green hills, lonely rivers, and buckled backroads.

Though I've always been technologically inclined, spending many hours during my youth tinkering with and fixing electronic equipment, I owe my current occupation to Texas Instruments and their wonderful line of graphing calculators based on the 8086, a 16-bit Intel processor created in 1978. I got one my freshman year in highschool for a math class, and soon discovered the amazing world of programming, both in TI BASIC and x86 assembly. This love eventually led me to major in Programming at College of the Redwoods, and in short order I received an AS in Programming as well as an AS in Computer Maintenance and Networking, graduating with highest honors. Also of note is the fact that I was the grateful recipient of the prestigious Programmer of the Year award there in 2002.

Of course, school is one thing - the Real World™ is quite another. Before graduating from college, I commenced an internship at PALCO, which of course turned into a full-time job as a computer technician. Our boss Tony was an awesome guy, teaching us much, and giving us the latitude to experience and experiment with the whole gambit of corporate information technology. After nearly three years of employment, a little bit of savings, and a lifetime of experience later, I left for Ecuador, where I learned Spanish and a new way of life.

I stayed there in Ecuador for six months engaging in volunteer work, which is something that has always shaped my life, something I believe carries over into my dealings with my valued clients. Everyone is familiar with the techie stereotype, but my goal is not to dazzle you with tech speak, but rather to help you meet your technological needs in this digital world. If we can both learn something together along the way, all the better!

I'm currently managing a network of over one-hundred and sixty computers as the technology coordinator for a local school district. This of course has brought its own unique challenges and problems to solve. And now I look forward to continuing to build and maintain my solid reputation in our community, by working closely with you and your friends on your special projects!
